Part 1 – Self Deception Explained

October 30, 2020 – First Meeting with team

I was so excited to share the concepts of the book, Leadership and Self-Deception to my team this week! Everyone who attended completed the reading assignment and we had a great discussion of what self-deception is. I created a PowerPoint to highlight quotes, scenarios, stories and issued a challenge at the end. For example, this slide I created was intended to incorporate the definition of self-deception into real life scenarios:

The majority of the team in attendance made comments and shared scenarios from work. One team member made the comment that this topic was very personal and we had the discussion this went beyond just work situations.

I wanted to really emphasis this concept from Chapter 4;

We had great conversations about the effects of not speaking with sincerity even in a work environment, that we will never be able to completely trust our team members without it.

Finally, we talked about our own plane experiences similar to Bud’s and I shared the diagram of the “Box” from the book. I was very happy people were beginning to relate their own feelings about giving up their seats.

This concluded our training, but I followed up by sending the reading assignment for Part 2 as well as the following challenge:

I am looking forward to November 13th training to see if people will share their experiences of identifying the “Box”!
