Group Training – October 9, 2020
I had the opportunity to work with my manager to help reinforce his goals of improving my team’s dynamics. My manager introduced to the book, The Five Dysfunctions of of a Team by Patrick Lencioni at the beginning of the year to my team. Together, we identified “Absence of Trust”, and “Fear of Conflict” as areas we, as a team, needed to improve.
I wanted to help build trust within my team and knew the principles in the book, Leadership and Self-Deception; Getting Out of the Box by The Arbinger Institute would give me the tools internally to do so. The main principle in the book is seeing others as objects and not as people, is explained as being “in the box” and can damage trust between team members. This book teaches us to be aware of how we treat others. I knew it would be beneficial for all on my team to read and discuss these ideas.
I had the chance to introduce the book in a team training on October 9th including a short video from The Arbinger Institute. I outlined we would have three additional trainings concluding with a survey right before Thanksgiving. I did ask all read Part 1 preparing to discuss on October 30th. Overall, I was very pleased with the positive response after the training and the willingness to participate!
